Background | History

In 2023, Julius Murinzi, the President & CEO of the International Community of Africa (iCOA), embarked on a mission inspired by his decade-long experience in the United States. Witnessing the transformative potential of the African diaspora, Murinzi envisioned a platform to harness the collective strength of this global Black economy to drive Africa’s innovation and prosperity.

Boston, renowned as a hub for innovation and home to some of the world’s most prestigious universities, became the birthplace of iCOA. Drawing on Boston’s entrepreneurial spirit and rich history of groundbreaking ideas, iCOA was founded to serve as a catalyst for change—bridging Africa with global opportunities.

The African diaspora has been a cornerstone of the continent’s development. Their exposure to advanced technologies, industries, and cutting-edge practices, combined with a deep understanding of Africa’s cultural and societal fabric, positions them uniquely to create tailored solutions for Africa’s challenges. This duality of global expertise and local insight has unlocked a vibrant landscape of opportunity and growth.

Through innovation, community engagement, and the insights of the diaspora, iCOA has forged a purpose-driven and community-centered culture. Guided by its compelling vision, iCOA aims to empower Africa’s future by fostering unity, driving sustainable development, and positioning entrepreneurship as the foundation of the continent’s economic transformation.
